Belong To’s ‘Glow Pride Breakfast’

Back in March, our journey towards Pride 2024 began with a deep dive into understanding the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth. Our Design team, led by the incredible insights of the Dublin Pride Youth Panel at Belong To HQ, conducted ethnographic research through participant observation and a facilitated workshop, which revealed something profound: Fear, in all its forms, was the red thread connecting all insights, particularly the fear of their true identity not being seen. These findings became the foundation for our “Glow” branding and event concept. 

• Event Design: Research showed that most attendees were neurodivergent, so we developed printed materials to make the event more inclusive and accessible. Calming colours, sans-serif fonts, and Bionic typography were used across menus, wayfinding posters, event info, and the mobile-friendly digital agenda to simplify data consumption. We also created 28 sustainable flags for youth groups from across Ireland, and the Woodquay amphitheatre was dressed in mesh banners featuring event and sponsor branding for a cohesive look. Two large reusable banners led the procession from Dublin Civic Offices to O’Connell Street for the Pride Parade. Additionally, we collaborated with the Pride Youth Panel to design this year’s Belong To Pride T-shirt, using their insights to create a modern illustration worn by attendees.

• Production Planning: We provided Belong To with comprehensive access to our full suite of expertise during the pre-event planning process. We actively participated in stakeholder meetings to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure alignment on key objectives. Given the significant logistical challenges of managing over 400 youth attendees travelling to Dublin’s city centre, our involvement was critical. Our shared priority was to ensure that everyone arrived safely and that the event was inclusive and welcoming, allowing all participants to fully experience and celebrate Pride in a supportive environment.

• Event Execution: We created a branded photo wall to provide a visually appealing backdrop for photos. It encouraged social sharing, amplifying event exposure and creating lasting memories for all attendees including Government Ministers, TDs and Senators, Dublin City councillors and a range of partner organisations that also attended the event.

• Content Creation: We provided a professional event photographer and videographer to capture the energy and essence of the Pride Breakfast. Their expertise ensured every significant moment was documented in high-quality visuals. After the event, we offered full access to our editing studio, enabling the creation of a polished, impactful highlight video. This video not only showcased the joy and unity of the day but also served as a valuable media asset for future promotions, social media engagement, and outreach efforts, helping to extend the event’s impact far beyond the day itself. The photography and videography also allowed attendees and supporters to relive the experience, fostering a deeper connection with the Belong To community.
